300th Anniversary of Limbé and Tribute to Dr. Hodges
Summary
2015-01-10 - Tercentenary of Limbé |
Life is made of cycles. Whether at the individual or collective level, it has always been helpful to identify special occasions and take the time to mark them. Thus, 2015 will mark the 300th anniversary of the official founding of the city of Limbé. Driven by the ideal of progress, several natives of Limbé, gathered within a citizen association or committee CSTL (Limbé Tricentenary Support Committee), with the aim of contributing to the commemoration of this event. The committee which is apolitical, includes Limbéens and Limbeennes, of different ages, professions, religious confessions, living in Limbé or in other cities in Haiti and in the diaspora. In addition to individuals, it also includes some non-profit organizations such as LUPS, Limbé HaitiVision, L'Union des Limbéens de Montréal. The committee has chosen to focus its activities in summer 2015, from June 29 to July 6. First, we want to undertake, to the extent of the means at our disposal, some structuring projects that will be added to the city's infrastructure. Secondly, we want to pay tribute to Dr. Hodges, who had a major and unique impact on the development of Limbe and also honor other people who have contributed in an exceptional way, to the well-being of the people of Limbe in the area. of health. Thirdly, we would like to encourage all the potential actors of Limbean society to unite and get involved in an action process, for the long-term sustainable development of Limbé. Construction of infrastructure
To commemorate the anniversary CTSL has built 2 beautiful entrances on the national road no. 1, one at the eastern entrance on the Haut-Limbé side and the other at the southern entrance on the Simalo side. As the road is expected to be widened, the display walls have been installed set back from the road behind the bollards installed by the construction company. Unfortunately, the plans were canceled and the road maintained in its original width. As a result, instead of being next to the road, the beautiful entrances have remained behind, thus reducing their visual impact.
Commemoration of the works of Dr William Hodges
The ceremony took place on July 5, 2015 in the courtyard of the Guahaba Museum. Joanna Hodges 90 years old, wife of the late Dr Hodges and members of his family made the trip. Several members of the committee made special remarks. A street built by Dr Hodges has been identified, two commemorative plaques given to the family. The ceremony was filmed by Pastor Gersan's television channel.

Memorial Père Le Pevedic and Homage to the former teachers of Limbé
Project undertaken from July 4 to 6, 2013 by an Ad Hoc committee of Limbéens from the diaspora, Limbé and Port-au-Prince set up on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the École des Frères Père le Pévédic , today Collège Ste Croix. It was also an opportunity to pay tribute to the former teachers of Limbé who invested themselves in the lives of young people, especially in the 60s and 70s.
A traditional football match between the elders and the younger generation instead brings to life some of the moments spent by these young people in the schoolyard.
A statue of Father LePévédic has been installed in the garden at the entrance to the school.
